The fourth time’s definitely the charm for The Sunny Cowgirls, who have come up with an album as spirited and meaningful as their other three combined.
Famous for painting authentic portraits of their beloved bush, Sophie and Celeste Clabburn have created another fresh set of stories about Aussie life, all of them delivered with heartfelt lyrics, catchy melodies, superb harmonies and driving rhythms.
Sophie describes the Cowgirls’ sound as being “a bit different – it’s a mixture of the traditional, of country rock, comedy and loud drinking songs”. While they’ve stuck to the formula that has always served them so well, a notable feature of Summer is the growth it reveals – of the Clabburns as women and musicians. So while their music has always made fans smile warmly and laugh out loud, these days it’s increasingly making them think too.
Little Bit Rusty, Long Five Days and Dust Will Settle may have been good, but Summer is even better.
