Sharon Shannon is an Irish musician, best known for her work with the accordion and for her fiddle technique. The Boston Globe said that Shannon "defines casual brilliance. She plays ... with carefree fluidity, virtuosic but not flashy, performing traditional Irish music with contemporary freshness.”
Beginning with Irish folk music, her work demonstrates a wide-ranging number of other musical influences as well, including reggae, Cajun music, Portuguese music and French-Canadian music.
Three years in the making, Flying Circus is Sharon's new album, on which she embarks on another musical direction in her collaboration with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Ninety percent of the material on the album is newly composed, while the remaining ten percent is a reworking of traditional tunes. Sharon said, "This project has been a very exciting musical journey for me ... I'm bursting with pride and excitement about this recording."
