Multiple Grammy Award winner John Mayer presents Battle Studies, a relaxed, liberated and confessional album that showcases the full range of his renowned talents.
Incorporating the warmth, simplicity and melodic sweetness of 70s and 80s California rock/pop, it was recorded in the California home where Mayer lived and worked over the course of six productive months.
The first single, Who Says, is an inspirational song that challenges the constraints society places on people’s ambitions. And on Half Of My Heart, the artist who has previously worked with the likes of Kanye West, Eric Clapton and BB King collaborates with superstar Taylor Swift.
“I approach music like a director doing a period piece”, explains Mayer. “Where Continuum was R&B and soul, Battle Studies was written with the timelessness of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac and Neil Young in mind. The melodies and message are concise and from-the-gut with the efficiency of simplicity”.
